Punch Romaine
Punch Romaine - This was the last drink (supposedly) served aboard the HMS Titanic on April 15th, 1912, 109 years ago today. Punch Romaine, a rum-spiked shaved-ice palate cleanser served to first class passengers during the fateful last dinner aboard the Titanic, was based on a recipe from famed French chef Georges Auguste Escoffier, who championed alcoholic shaved ices during the early twentieth century. The original recipe, essentially a granita, is a citrusy cocktail poured over an iceberg of crushed ice.
In a cocktail shaker with 4-6 agitator cubes add:
1 Egg White
1 oz Plantation 3 Star Rum
1 oz Dry White Wine
1 oz Simple Syrup
.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.5 oz Fresh Orange Juice
Shake vigorously for 1 minute and strain over shaved ice in a beautiful and fancy low coupe.
Top with Moet & Chandon Champagne.
Garnish with a swirled orange peel and Orange zest. Enjoy!
