Puka Punch

Puka Punch - And still more on the subject of “punch”. At the Tiki-Ti in Los Angeles, they brought this drink to town in 1961 during the Golden Age of Tiki. As I have mentioned before, punch’s have a few consistent elements. This one has them in spades! No less than four rums and a rum based spice blast called Velvet Falernum. Falernum is an 11% ABV syrup  liqueur from the Caribbean. It is best known for its use in tropical drinks. It contains flavors of ginger, line and almond and most often also of cloves and allspice. It may be thought of as a spicier version of orgeat syrup with low ABV. Depending on sugar content, the consistency is often thick and is therefore sometimes referred to as "velvet falernum" because of the feeling it leaves on one's tongue. This recipe was curated by Beachbum Berry (remixed) and adapted by the folks at Smuggler’s Cove
