Big Bamboo

Big Bamboo - The Big Bamboo cocktail was created by Mariano Licudine at the Mai-Kai restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Licudine was a Filipino-born bartender who worked at the Mai-Kai for over 20 years. The Big Bamboo was originally only available to members of the Okole Maluna Society after they had ordered every other drink on the menu. It later evolved into the Mara-Amu, which is still a popular drink at the Mai-Kai. It starts with two fine rums by Dos Maderas: The 5+3 and the 5+5. Each one is both Caribbean aged and finished in Jerez, Spain in Sherry Casks. Enjoy!

In a blender cup of cracked ice add:

  • 1 oz. / 45ml Dos Maderas 5+3

  • .5 oz. / 15ml Dos Maderas 5+5

  • .5 oz. / 15ml Lime Juice

  • .5 oz. / 15ml Orange Juice

  • .5 oz. / 15ml Grapefruit Juice

  • .5 oz. / 15ml passion fruit syrup

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

    Strain into your favorite tiki mug of choice

  • Fresh mint garnish
