Spontaneous Rumbustion
Spontaneous Rumbustion - This Dane Barca creation is a very explosive take on a Hot Toddy! It originated (by one account) in India (controlled by the British at the time) in the 1610s and was derived from the Hindi word “taddy,” which translated into a drink made with fermented palm sap. This history is, naturally, disputed. The other origin story tells the tale of an Irish doctor named Robert Bentley Todd, who ordered his patients to drink hot brandy, cinnamon, and sugar water. Most likely, the truth is a combination of the two stories, where doctors heard about the hot toddies from India and started incorporating them into prescriptions. Being that it was 2 degrees this morning, one might be in the cards this evening! Cheers!
In an Irish Coffee Glass or other heat resistant glass add:
.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.5 oz Honey Syrup
4 oz Hot Water
In a Blue Blazer o handled copper mug add:
2 oz Hamilton 151 Guyana
Light the Rum on fire with a long match or lighter. When the flame turns orange, immediately pour the contents of the mug into the Irish Coffee Glass. Put out the flame by covering the glass with the mug. Garnish with a lemon peel curl. Enjoy!
