Aku Aku - Easter Island words meaning “ spiritual guide”

This drink comes from Don the Beachcomber and was originally called Missionary’s Downfall ;-) from the 1930’s

Aku-Aku: the Secret of Easter Island is a 1957 book by Thor Heyerdahl published in English the following year. The book describes the 1955–1956 Norwegian Archaeological Expedition's investigations of Polynesian history and culture at Easter Island, the Austral Islands of Rapa Iti and Raivavae, and the Marquesas Islands of Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa. Visits to Pitcairn Island, Mangareva and Tahiti are described as well.

In a stainless mixing glass add:

  • 5 chunks of fresh pineapple , muddle to a pulp

  • Add 8 mint leaves

  • 1 oz fresh lime juice

  • .5 oz Demerara syrup

  • .5 oz Mathilde’s Peach Liqueur

  • 2.5 oz of Angostura 1919 rum

Mix for 20 seconds and strain into a chilled coupe

Garnish with fresh mint leaves
