Chartreuse Swizzle

Chartreuse Swizzle - If you like a complex flavor profile, this one’s for you. Only 4 ingredients, but 2 of the main features are packed with history and complexity. Chartreuse is a French liqueur available in green and yellow versions that differ in taste and alcohol content. The liqueur has been made by the Carthusian Monks since 1737 according to the instructions set out in a manuscript given to them by François Annibal d'Estrées in 1605. It was named after the monks' Grande Chartreuse monastery, located in the Chartreuse Mountains in the general region of Grenoble in France. The liqueur is produced in their distillery in nearby Aiguenoire. It is composed of distilled alcohol aged with 130 herbs, plants and flowers. It is one of the handful of liqueurs that continue to age and improve in the bottle.

John D. Taylor’s Velvet Falernum is a staple ingredient in a number of great tiki and exotic cocktails. The reason is Velvet Falernum’s high sugar weight and supporting flavorings make it ideal for use as an improved simple syrup, adding depth to daiquiris, mojitos, and sangria. The creamy texture from almond is critical to many tiki drinks, and the spice notes compliment aged rums in Old-Fashioned-style cocktails. Splash a little Velvet Falernum on some berries for a quick dessert, or incorporate into coffee or iced tea for an exotic touch. at 11% ABV it is a low alcohol enhancement to any cocktail looking for a little something extra!

This drink was created by Marcovaldo Dionysos #marcovaldodionysos (if there was ever a perfect name for a bartender, this is it!) at Smugglers Cove in San Francisco.
